If a relationship between two people is that fragile where both people approach it with that much fear of being hurt, cautiousness, doubts, skepticism to a point where simply uttering "I love you" changes the dynamics, then that relationship is probably doomed from the get go. It didn't hurt me because I valued his honesty, and we were both falling for each other anyways. I just got there first. About a month later he said it back and it was absolutely wonderful.
